Necessity opens the doors to accessories

Remember the saying “necessity is the mother of invention“? Well, my personal take on that (at least when it comes to road trip driving) is: “necessity opens the doors to accessories“.

In this post, I’ve grouped the list of road trip car accessories into four main categories to help you determine what accessories would best work for your needs:

  • The Bare Essentials Accessories
  • The Regular Road Tripper’s Essential Accessories

Long-Distance Driving Advice and Road Trip Safety (1/3) – Essential Roadside Emergency Knowledge and Equipment

Long-Distance Driving Advice and Road Trip Safety Pt. 1 - Essential Roadside Emergency Knowledge and Equipment - Blog Post Title

Have you ever wanted to travel somewhere just out of your own curiosity and found out that no one else was really all that interested in going there? For me, that was Thunder Bay. Unfortunately for me, most of my friends were simply uninterested in visiting the rest of our province – at least nothing so far north as Thunder Bay.

According to Google Maps, a direct drive from Toronto to Thunder Bay is nearly 15 hours long. That’s the same amount of time it takes to drive from Toronto to Nova Scotia OR Toronto to Florida!

Yowza. Eventually, I did end up driving up to Thunder Bay, and made a 5-day vacation out of it too! But for today, I wanted to focus more on general long-distance driving advice and road trip safety. Prior to this drive, I was almost always exclusively a passenger during long-distance drives and never really put much thought into what needed to be considered to stay safe on the road.

Today’s post will cover the first of three topics to consider when you’re considering a long-distance road trip:

  1. Essential Roadside Emergency Knowledge and Equipment
  2. Road Trip Car Accessories to Make Long-Distance Driving More Comfortable
  3. General Advice for Road Trip Safety

Top 3 Nature and Eco Stay around Bali, Indonesia

Blog Post Cover - Top 3 Nature and Eco Stays around Bali Indonesia

With the recent Global Climate Strike, I’ve been thinking harder about my own ecological footprint as a tourist as well and what ways I can work to reduce it. As a result, I’ve expanded my research to include more nature and eco stay locations.

Somewhere that has been very much on my bucket list is Bali, Indonesia. To me, the place conjures images of vast jungles, pristine rivers, and amazing biodiversity. I want to preserve that feeling when I visit, to ensure that future generations can also appreciate its raw beauty. What better place to start my nature and eco stay research than to research it for this beautiful country?

After looking at half a dozen nature and eco stays around Bali, these are my top 3 ideal places to stay:

  1. Sunrise House, Green Village (All-bamboo architectural wonder aka $$$)
  2. Hideout Bali (All-bamboo cozy stay $$)
  3. Fivelements (Complete eco-conscious wellness retreat $$$)

Carry On Bag Dimensions – All the Dimensions You Would Ever Need in 2019 to Ensure Your Carry On Fits for All Flights

Thinking of going for a carry-on only trip? Depending on where you’re coming from and where you’re going, your carry-on bag dimensions can vary. Let’s imagine that we’re traveling across the continent of our dreams, and you’ve booked a whole bunch of regional and budget airlines to get you from one location to the next. Trying to save some money, you try the carry-on only style, and pack your entire life into one tiny bag. Just as you’re about to board your flight though, you’re stopped by the flight attendants. They’re eyeing your bag and … oh no! Your bag is juuuuuust a little too large to go into the cabin, so they force you to check it in, and you’re stuck with a check baggage fee. This totally could have been avoided if some background work was done!

Have no fear, for we’ve created a list that takes away that leg work for you. This list is a work in progress! At the moment, you’ll find a list of carry-on restrictions and limitations for more than 80+ airlines servicing North America and Africa. I’ll be making weekly updates over the course of the next several weeks to include more airlines as I find them.

Constipation During Travel – My Iceland Outhouse Experience and Why I Pack Laxatives When I Travel

Constipation Duing Travel - My Iceland Outhouse Experience and Why I Pack Laxatives When I Travel

Recently, I wrote a blog post about the essential medicine to carry when you travel, which of course, includes the topic for today – why you should be carrying laxatives when you travel. Constipation no joke. The gassy, bloated, stomach pain caused by the changes in your routine and added travel stress (like sleep disruption and dietary changes) can leave you blocked up. Nowadays, I reluctantly carry a pack of Miralax/Restorlax as part of my essential medicine kit when I travel abroad – a hard (pun intended!) lesson learned when I found myself sitting in an Icelandic outhouse, 8 days after I started my vacation – without stool softeners or laxatives (don’t worry the post doesn’t contain graphic medical details! It is just a story to stress why I need it in my pack now!).

Disclaimer: Today’s post talks about poop and my lack of success with it in Iceland. Basically every paragraph describes bowel movements. Skip if this is something you’re just really not interested in at all!
